Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do it…! (MEND) is a weight programme for children aged 7– 13 being offered as an after-school activity by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, in partnership with NHS West Kent.
The ten week, free, healthy weight programme is for children who are above their ideal weight. During the course the young people get to find out how different foods affect the body, how to make sense of food labelling, healthy portion sizes and to try their hand at a range of exercises.
Arranged to coincide with the start of the new school term MEND programmes will start in Rusthall, at the United Reformed Church on 26 September and at St Gregory’s School, Tunbridge Wells on 4 October.
The programme aims to involve the whole family, not just children, to promote healthy eating and regular exercise to help improve lives. Importantly it is run in a supportive, non-pressured environment with other families who are keen to lead healthier lifestyles.
MEND is a national initiative developed by Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Institute of Child Health.
Tunbridge Wells Borough Council also offers residents the chance to get involved in an adult weight management programme, Weight for it.
