WIs are grouped to form 70 county and island federations, each with a regional office.Together the WIs and Federations make up the National Federation. The national headquarters of the WI is in London and there is also an NFWI Wales office in Cardiff and a residential education college in Oxfordshire, The NFWI Board of Trustees is democratically elected every two years by the members.
Our WI is in the Kent West-Kent Federation and the Goudhurst District. Each level of the organisation is run by a committee of elected members.
WI Life
The membership magazine is posted direct to all members, 8 times a year WILife magazine keeps members up to date with national activities, the progressof campaigns following the resolutions passed at the AGM and the activities of other Institutes.
The purpose of the WI is to encourage and enable women:
- to enhance their lives and to play their part in the community through education and public questions
- to provide a friendly atmosphere where women can be inspired and enlightened.
- to improve their lives and the lives of those around them to lead fulfilling lives and to be of value in the community and nationally to influence policy/decision makers.
WIs were originally based exclusively in rural areas, but now exist wherever there is a need. Each WI is self-governing within the framework of the WI Constitution and Rules.
